Diagnosis Is The First Step

Who We Are

The Odyssey Clinic at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is Arkansas’ coordinated specialty care (CSC) program for persons age 16+ who are experiencing first episode psychosis. We help people who are within the first two years since developing symptoms of psychosis. We launched in July 2024 and have clinics currently in Little Rock and Fayetteville.

How We Can Help

Early intervention has been shown to improve outcomes through reduced symptoms, hospitalizations, and improved educational and vocational outcomes. At the Odyssey Clinic, we provide specialized forms of therapy, psychoeducation and support for families, careful use of medications, case management, and supported employment and education services to help our clients with their vocational and academic success.

What is Psychosis?

“Psychosis” is a medical term that describes a particular set of symptoms. These may include internally-generated sensory experiences (aka “hallucinations”), having firm beliefs that may may be both resistant to change despite evidence and that may be distressing to yourself and/or others, challenges with thinking and/or speech, erratic behavior, and possible deprivation symptoms including limited emotional expression, challenges with motivation, or reduced desire for social interaction. “Psychosis” itself is not a diagnosis though symptoms of psychosis may be parts of other diagnoses.

Education & Resources

In addition to our direct work with patients and families, we also strive to educate others about psychosis in order to improve public and professional knowledge about psychosis. Reducing stigma about psychosis helps to improve the quality of life of patients, families, and helps to reduce the overall social costs associated with psychosis.
